Please note that ALL individuals above 3 years are now eligible for CoVID vaccination, and we now have a CHOICE!
BioNtech (Pfizer) has been available since 2/2022 for down to 5 years. Coronavac (Sinovac) has been available since 2/2022 for down to 3 years as well!
Both vaccines are considered safe and effective in young people. Although it may not prevent infection completely, they are very effective in preventing serious infection and hospitalization. It is essential for the vast majority of the population to receive vaccination before normal life can possibly resume.
The present recommendation for 3–17-year-olds is to have either
Sinovac vaccine: Children and adolescents aged 3 to 17 years are
recommended to receive three doses of vaccine#. The 1
st and 2nd dose should be administered 28 days apart and the 2nd and 3rd dose should be administered 90 days apart.
BioNTech vaccine: Children and adolescents aged 5 to 11 years
are recommended to receive two doses of vaccine#, two doses at
56 days interval. Adolescents aged 12 to 17 years are recommended
to receive 3 doses of vaccine#. The 2 nd and 3rd dose should be
administered 150 days apart.
BioNtech is available in designated Community Vaccination Centres, and soon in our clinic as well. We will continue to administer Coronavac in the clinic too.
Recipients of BioNtech are requested to refrain from vigorous exercise for 1 week after the vaccination for fear of myocarditis or pericarditis.
It is most likely that the age indication will be progressively lowered by the Government as Coronavac (Sinovac) is already approved for down to 3 years of age.
